Our Story

Training Mate started on the shores of Sydney harbor in 2009 with a simple belief - that moving your body and having fun with your mates could get you in the best shape of your life. While other trainers focused on yelling and screaming, founder Luke Milton drew on his professional rugby background and harnessed the power of positivity and sense of camaraderie to get the best results for his clients.

In 2013, Luke decided to bring this philosophy to the US - complete with some Aussie flair and short shorts. Since then Training Mate has become so much more than a place to work out. It’s become a community - a place where you can meet new mates and feel at home away from home - all while getting amazing physical results.

The Workout

You can do anything for 45 seconds

Training Mate is a circuit based 45 minute HIIT (high intensity interval training) class that uses a combination of resistance and cardiovascular exercises to burn up to 1,000 calories in a single session.

The class is divided into four timed stations which you’ll complete with up to three partners. The goal? Push yourself as much as you can during each 45 second interval. No class is the same so you’ll encounter a variety of exercises and equipment such as kettlebells, dumbbells, suspension bands, bikes, rowers and even kangaroo jumps! These all work to improve your speed, power and endurance all while toning and strengthening the core.

Each class ends with a dedicated abs segment complete with the worst jokes you’ve ever heard. Don’t worry, those are free.

Luke Milton

Luke

Luke's fitness career began as a professional Rugby player in Australia where he was lucky enough to play for his country. After retiring from Rugby, Luke founded Training Mate in Sydney, Australia and quickly established himself as a leader in the fitness community. He is now a celebrity trainer here in Los Angeles and lives by the belief that a healthy lifestyle is a combination of physical, social and mental health. He is so excited to bring the Aussie approach to fitness to WeHo and even happier to bring the short Rugby shorts!

Adam Gibson (Gibbo)

It's said that Adam could swim before he could walk. A background in competitive swimming, competing at State and National level before hanging up his budgee smugglers and goggles for the gym floor, Gibbo is all about good time vibes, getting sweaty… and working out. As a Certified Personal Trainer he has strutted his stuff on 3 continents over the past 9 years. He brings with him a bounty of experience and enthusiasm, ensuring everyone will FEEL THE BURN!

Edwina Cheer (Edo)

Edwina’s father is actually a kangaroo. You can find her at Training Mate hopping around, #killing it and encouraging members to do the same. She is a National Level Athlete, Certified PT and Sports Nutritionist. Her enthusiasm for fitness is contagious and she’s the only one that can keep these boys in line!

Sean

Sean

Sean is Training Mate's resident ginger, and can often be found in the gym wearing an Aussie akubra (that’s a hat). Sean’s classes are friendly & fun, with a strong focus on technique to give you a challenging workout out. He is a certified PT & fitness specialist with a background in physical therapy and working with those with chronic health conditions.

Kayne Tremills

KAYNE, not unlike the walking stick, is ever reliable and always happy to support you. His classes have been described by many as "the hardest, in a good way." Kayne has a keen eye for posture and form and will endeavor to put a 'smile on ya dial' while you're busy getting busy! He also tells shit jokes, with great pride.

Jimmy O

Jimmy O

Majoring in Human Biology and Physical Education, Jimmy O has had a long held interest in the scientific approach to health and fitness which he has applied to his own life. With a broad range of experience from swimming, Footy, Muay Thai and endurance races Jimmy believes physical fitness and feeling part of a community are key ingredients to a happy lifestyle. That’s a huge part of what drew him to Training Mate, and he is super, bloody excited to be part of the team!!

Bucko is Training Mate’s resident heartthrob who gets the blood pumping in more ways than one. His hands on approach is great for first timers or anyone looking to perfect their form. No matter what type of day you’re having, Bucko’s infectious smile and positive personality will have you leaving class like you just won the lotto.

Arrive Early

We love meeting new mates and want to make sure your first experience at Training Mate is amazing! If you show up a bit early we can show you around and make sure you’re set up for a killer workout. Part of that is making sure you’re there for our instructor’s run through of the class where we demonstrate proper form and safety.

Paperwork is never fun so get it done ahead of time by .

Cancellations

We get it - things come up. All we ask is that you give us 6 hours notice so that we can give your spot to someone else on the waitlist. A $10 cancellation fee will be charged for any no shows.

Showers

Feeling a bit ripe after your workout? We’ve got showers with your name on it. Well, not really, but you can use them.

No Expiration Dates
